Use and Abuse of Reusable Learning Objects
نویسنده
چکیده
The term Learning Object, first popularized by Wayne Hodgins in 1994 when he named the CedMA working group "Learning Architectures, APIs and Learning Objects", has become the Holy Grail of content creation and aggregation in the computer-mediated learning field. The terms Learning Objects (LOs) and Reusable Learning Objects are frequently employed in uncritical ways, thereby reducing them to mere slogans. The serious lack of conceptual clarity and reflection is evident in the multitude of definitions and uses of LOs. The objectives of this paper are to assess current definitions of the term Learning Object, to articulate the foundational principles for developing a concept of LOs, and to provide a methodology and broad set of guidelines for creating LOs. 1 Movements in the Learning Object Economy In the past 5-7 years there have been considerable efforts in the computer-mediated learning field towards standardization of metadata elements to facilitate a common method for identifying, searching and retrieving Learning Objects (LOs). Recently, a consensus has emerged among the various bodies spearheading these efforts including the IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) Learning Object Metadata Working Group, the IMS Global Learning Consortium, Inc., and the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative on what these common metadata elements might be. Similar efforts to develop a common conceptual definition of LOs have yet to emerge. There is a broad understanding among the members of the LO community about the functional

Introduction: The use of modern educational technologies is useful for learning, durability, sociability, and upgrading professionalism. The aim of this study was evaluating the effect of reusable learning objects on improving learning of anatomy. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study. Fourteen (reusable learning objects) RLO from different parts of anatomy of human body including tho...
متن کاملObjects Identification in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey on Techniques
Analysis and design of object oriented is onemodern paradigms for developing a system. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles. Identifying objects (and classes) is one of the most important steps in the object-oriented paradigm. This paper makes a literature review over techniques to identify objects and then presents six taxonomies for them. The f...
متن کاملReusable Learning Object and Its Strategies for e-Learning
Sequence, granularity and taxonomy of learning objects are three open problems that will be faced in developing learning system. Concerning these problems and other ideas about educational technological standards and instructional design, the article mainly discusses the reusable strategies of learning objects. Firstly, based on discussing learning objects’ characteristics, the article designs ...
متن کاملReusable Learning Objects for Multimedia
In this paper, I describe the design and development of several Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs) for introductory multimedia concepts. The objects prioritise active and interactive learning using dynamic simulations, and the paper explores some of the pedagogical issues that arise from the RLO paradigm. The paper presents the results of an evaluation using a control group and equivalent present...
متن کاملImplementing Different Learning Styles Using Reusable Learning Objects
The issue of learning styles is becoming increasingly important in the last two decades. It has been discovered that students usually achieve better if their learning styles are matched with their instructors’ teaching styles. It is, however, quite difficult, if not impossible, for an instructor to adapt his/her teaching style in a lecture to accommodate all of the various learning styles of st...
